Cell Isolation
Robert Hooke's discovery of the cell in 1665 was one of man's greatest discovery. Although his discovery was of plant cells, it opened the gates for scientists like Kolliker, Altman and Benda to discover the mitochondrion; Brown who discovered the nucleus; the DNA by Miescher; how the cell multiplies via mitosis by W.Flemming; up to the first isolation of embryonic stem cells in 1981.
Cell isolation is probably the most widely researched technique today because of its many scientific applications particularly in the detection of human genetic disorders and cloning. The latter is perhaps the most controversial discovery following stem cell isolation.
Man will always be fascinated with how living things live and this fascination is the fuel that drives scientists to greater discoveries to improve human life.
