Appreciation

Image
Photo from  here . "Learn to appreciate and world will appreciate your existence." It is funny why many people don't know how to appreciate.  If there is one important lesson that I have learned last year, it is to appreciate even the littlest of things. About a week ago, I had a conversation with a co-worker.  She was complaining about why she did not get the gift that she wants last Christmas and instead she got a coin purse worth 10 pesos.  She even said that even though she gets less salary, she gives expensive gifts.  I was shocked.  I don't know where her words are coming from.  I was supposed to give her a gift for doing little favors for me but when I heard her say those things, I thought she will probably not appreciate what I will give her.  I was offended. I was taken aback.  I got the same coin purse she was complaining about and I never thought that I would receive a gift from that person because I know that she has a ...

No To Extravagant Company Christmas Parties

Image
Photo from here . What can you say about having extravagant Christmas parties before we hit the holidays? I know it only happens once in a year but ever since the typhoon Haiyan left Tacloban City in Leyte and other parts of Visayas literally flat, I feel like there is no sense having Christmas parties with tons of leftover foods and drinks when you see images of families who beg for food in the streets. I find no reason for spending parties in plush restaurants when there are still families who have no roofs to protect them from the weather. I applaud those companies and families as well who, instead of having parties this yuletide season, opt to donate or spend a day or two of charity works. I mean, at this point of economic hardships and calamities, we must be more sensitive to the feelings of others. Let us be more generous in giving to those who are most needy because I believe that if we are generous to others, God will also be generous to us.

Christmas Carolers

Image
Photo from here . You know that it is already Christmas when you hear carolers outside your house singing Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad and all other famous Christmas songs known to mankind.  I like caroling, I used to sing with the gang every night after school to raise fund for our small Christmas party.  It's fun and you get to know the generous and not so generous people around the neighborhood.  And no matter how big or small amount we receive from them (even if we receive none), we always end the caroling with the song "Thank you, thank you, ang babait ninyo (you're so kind), thank you!" As the years go by, more and more carolers are forgetting that the real spirit of caroling is to renounce through songs that Our Savior is born.  And that the essence of Christ being born is selfless giving and unconditional love. I am not the Grinch who will steal Christmas.  I love the Yuletide season, as a matter of fact, but carolers a...
