New Book: Ligo na U, Lapit na Me by Eros S. Atalia

Image
I was able to have a quick tour inside a book store earlier this day and I didn't waste a time searching for this book by Eros S. Atalia-- Ligo na U, Lapit na Me . I first saw this book last week as I was paying for some supplies at the cashier. I thought it has a funny title. I am quite fond of reading this type of books being Bob Ong as my favorite author. It was only a few days ago that I learned from YouTube that this book was actually made into an Indie film. I clicked on the play button to take a peek and I was quite impressed of the story. Ligo na U, Lapit na Me  is a story about a college student named Intoy who had a 'special' kind of relationship with his classmate named Jenny. They do not consider themselves as a couple but they both enjoy the benefits of being one.  I love Intoy and Jenny.

High efficiency furnace

I am excited about Christmas. It is my most favorite holiday of them all because aside from the left and right parties and reunions and the merry air that you can see and feel, it is also the time that our air conditioning unit gets a rest. Temperature during Christmas season until February drops up to 3 degrees from the normal. It is usually during January and February that temperature drops up to 5 degrees when snow from the Northern Hemisphere starts to melt, at this point, I sometimes wish we have high efficiency furnace to warm up the room a little bit.

Basketball training for my son

My son's dad is a good basketball player, although he did not go to basketball training school and do not play in pro tournaments, he joins inter-town games with his friends. He sees basketball more as a sport rather than a possible source of income. When our son was born, he always said that someday he will teach our son to play. The thought of father and son basketball bonding excites me so much... it is a sight that I commonly see on television shows or in movies. Anyway, our son is now three years old and instead of learning how to play basketball, he learned to play volleyball--my sport. His dad wasn't actually disappointed that he is more interested in my sport than his sport, but, I could sense that he is still wishing it is his sport rather than mine. So now, I am thinking of sending our son to basketball training school when he gets a little older.

Amazing!

9/11 after 10 years

Where were you when the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists? I could very well remember that day. I was in my room watching E! in the afternoon when I suddenly received a text message from a college friend. She said the World Trade Center was hit by a plane. I thought it was the WTC in Manila but her message was followed by "the second tower collapsed". I immediately tuned in to the news to see what was happening in the US. The videos of the twin towers slowly collapsing and seeing people jumping out of the building were horrific. Tomorrow, the world will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the most brutal terrorist attack man shall ever know in his life.

Receiving Compliments

When somebody compliments you about a job well done, the way you look or your beautiful shoes, how do you respond or react? It is just recently that I have learned to accept the compliments. And there is a solid reason why I did not years back. Whenever someone would give me compliments, I would say "oh, it is nothing" or "not really".  Find out what is the Pinoy’s Negation technique when receiving compliments! Not all Filipinos would accept compliments without negation. And that is what I have learned to not do anymore. Accepting or receiving compliment is not being conceited or arrogant... it is in fact, acknowledging the sincerity of the person giving the words of praise and confirming that indeed you made an effort to do a great job or to look good. So, the next time you are being complimented of something, smile and say "thank you!".

Thoughts about happiness

I had a rare conversation with a friend. It is probably be the most memorable one we had in years. He said, he always prayed for the happiness of his ex when they were still together. His ex also prayed the same for him. They are now happily married... to a different man and woman.  Just this afternoon, someone told me that he can make me happy. I frankly told him, "no, you can never make me happy because you don't know what will make me happy. You can only make me smile. And smiling is different from happiness."

Better Days by Dianne Reeves

Just because I miss my best friend. This is one of her favorite songs. I think this is one of the hardest songs to sing.
