Hostage Drama Is Not Yet Over

I feel sad about what happened at the Quirino Grandstand a few days ago.  I purposely did not blog about it while it was happening to at least show respect for the people who are in a very difficult situation.  After many hours of negotiation that ended in a bloodbath, I just feel sorrier for the victims and my fellow Filipinos who had nothing to do with what happened that day.  I have read so many articles about countries hating the Philippines because of the tragic event.  Just now in the news, one of our Senators had a taste of their anger when an airport official in Hong Kong allegedly threw his passport.  

I feel bad about the deranged former policeman, too.  He was dismissed from service because of grave misconduct and administrative charges filed against him and three other policemen when they allegedly planted a drug evidence to a chef who works in a hotel in Manila.  Justice is still not served at the time of this writing.  He was an accomplished police officer as proven by the many medals and plaques that are displayed on his coffin.  If you will try to analyze and look into one of the reasons for his seeking attention, it is because of our poor justice system.

I do not want to dwell more on the case, the experts will do that, I just wanted to point out one thing... it is never right to generalize.  If other countries had witnessed that fateful event, it does not reflect what  kind of people Filipinos are.  Hostage crises and different kinds of crime happen every day in all parts of the world... some Filipinos even get killed, but we do not generalize, we condemn the crime but we do not condemn the country where the killing happened.  I just hope that the world will see that we are a nation with the most kind hearted people and that we always see the good in others.

So you see, the hostage drama is not yet over.  As long as people will generalize, the drama will never end.
